Join us Memorial Day on Monday May 27th as we open up our doors to the Daytona-area community and perform the hero workout Murph.

Performing Murph on Memorial is tradition that started out of the CrossFit community that people and gyms across the United States participate in to honor those service men and women that have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Who is Murph?

Murph is named after Navy Seal Lt. Michael Murphy, who died in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005. Lieutenant Murphy’s team was surrounded and pinned down by enemy forces without a signal to radio for help. Lieutenant Murphy then climbed up a cliff into the line of fire to get a signal to call for help, sacrificing himself in the process. This act of bravery by the entire team caught the attention of President Bush and was portrayed in the film Lone Survivor.

What is the workout Murph?

Murph is a 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another 1 mile run. Advanced athletes perform the workout with a weighted vest on. With that said, anyone can participate. We will have athletes ranging from 12 years-old up to athletes over 70 years-old. At Modern Human CrossFit, we will be providing alternative versions inspired by the original workout for all participating athletes that need it.

How can you sign-up?

Our Murph event will be free and open to the public. If you are not a member of Modern Human CrossFit, please email christian@modernhumancrossfit.com to participate with us
