Make Goals Specific

A good goal answers the question, “How will I know when I’ve achieved it?” For example, instead of saying, “I want to lose weight,” say, “I want to lose 15 pounds by June 1st.” Instead of saying, “I want to get stronger,” say, “I want to deadlift 200 pounds by March.”

Find Your Powerful Why

Why does your goal matter to you? When your goals align with a strong, personal reason, you’re more likely to stay motivated. Maybe you want to keep up with your kids, regain confidence, or improve your health for longevity. Write this reason down and remind yourself of it often.

Use the “I Will… Because…” Formula

When writing your goals, use this powerful framework:

This formula helps you focus on what you want and why it matters, keeping you motivated.

Break It Down

Big goals can feel overwhelming. Breaking them into smaller, manageable steps makes them more achievable. For example:

  • If your goal is to attend CrossFit three times a week, your first step might be scheduling your classes for the week.
  • If your goal is to lose 15 pounds, your first step might be prepping healthy meals for the week or drinking more water.

Each small step moves you closer to your ultimate goal.
